Exotic Animals and Guide Dogs Visit Ashby Library

This summer, Ashby Library and Tourist Information Centre welcomed some very special visitors. Guide Dogs held a free meet and greet on Saturday 8 August, and an exotic animals session followed on Saturday 22 August. Both events ran from 11am to 1pm and were sponsored by the Tourist Information Centre and Ashby BID.

What happened at the Guide Dogs meet and greet?

On Saturday 8 August, Guide Dogs brought working dogs and puppies to the Tourist Information Centre on North Street. The free event ran from 11am to 1pm, on the same day as Ashby Pride in the town centre.

Visitors could:

• Meet and stroke guide dogs and puppies
• Learn about a guide dog's training journey
• Talk to volunteers about puppy raising and fundraising

Guide Dogs is a UK charity that trains dogs to help people with sight loss live more independently.

What happened at the exotic animals day?

On Saturday 22 August, families came face to face with exotic animals at Ashby Library from 11am to 1pm.

[CHECK: add the name of the animal provider and the animals that visited, for example snakes, lizards or tarantulas.]

It was a brilliant chance for children to see unusual animals up close, ask questions and learn how they live, all during the summer holidays.

Why does Ashby BID sponsor events at the library?

Ashby BID reopened the Tourist Information Centre at Ashby Library, and family events help more people discover it.

Free activities like these bring families into the town centre during the school holidays. Many visitors make a morning of it, stopping at local cafés and shops before or after.
