This April Half Term, we’re teaming up with local schools for a Painting competition, plus a digital trail around town for families to follow.

What’s happening?

This Easter, Ashby BID is working with local schools to host a fun hand print painting competition, alongside an interactive digital trail that families can follow throughout the event dates.

This event aims to bring the community together, celebrate local creativity, and create a reason to enjoy a wander around Ashby during the school holidays — without needing a big plan or expensive tickets.

It’s a great option if you want an activity that’s:

We stay on Bath Street for our second business of the month. Woodlander, established back in 1989 by Sam Hampton started out in just one building, but rapidly expanded to occupy two more properties next door. It has a wide frontage and benefits from a fabulous shop window which often gets a place in the town’s best dressed

window competitions. Sam describes the shop as a destination for everyone, whether you’re looking to treat yourself, find something

for your home or a gift for someone you care for. The business stocks a large selection of baby wear, cards, homeware and general gifts alongside fine leather goods, such as gloves and handbags, and

fashion accessories. If you have friends who are expecting a new arrival, celebrating a special occasion such as a wedding, anniversary, or just want some retail therapy for yourself, you’re sure to find the perfect gift or treat in store. It is really important to Sam and his team that everyone

Ashby Toolbox is a business that needs very little introduction, in fact I bet there are very few Ashby residents who haven’t nipped in for something since they first opened their doors on Coxon’s Mews 8 years ago. Tom says he thinks part of the success of the store is that

you can pop in for just one nut or bolt, or everything you need for a full home makeover. The shop really is an Aladdin’s cave & whatever you go in for, you are almost certain to leave with something you didn’t realise you needed! They offer services from key cutting to paint mixing & have craft items, bakeware & decorations for your home, whatever the

season. Tom says the best thing about managing the shop is without doubt the customers – you may remember them making the national news when the town came out to form a human chain when they moved to their Market Street premises 3 years ago & when I went in to chat to Tom he had just been given a selection of vegetables by a customer who had grown them from seeds they purchased in store.

Since arriving on Market Street, the Ashby Toolbox window has been an ever-changing spectacle & is always a delight to pass by, whether it is celebrating the season, supporting the nation’s sporting heroes or dressed up for a special occasion. It’s almost time for their Halloween window display & Tom says he has big plans for this year’s Christmas window, so watch this space!

After working for the Post Office for over 20 years, Yvonne started Papillon Bleu in 2013, with the shop originally located in Pass’ Courtyard, before moving to the current location on Brook Street in 2017. Yvonne starting knitting when she was just 5 years old. She can also turn her hand

Now she owns Papillon Bleu she enjoys sharing her hobbies with the local area and runs a weekly ‘Knit & Natter’ session at Brown’s Court from 7pm to 9pm on Monday evenings (there’s no need to book, just turn up). It’s only £3 a session which includes a hot drinks and biscuits. Yvonne says many of her members use this session for the social interaction, as they may otherwise be home alone.

salon in Ashby, having been in Rushton’s Yard for 20 years. Although much has changed over that time, the passion that Verity had when she started hasn’t. Verity started out working in the salon and when the opportunity came up to purchase the business, she didn’t let the

fact that she was a lone parent to young children get in her way. Since then, the business has gone from strength to

strength. The salon prides itself on offering a warm, friendly, service and their quaint, quiet courtyard setting makes you feel instantly transported from the hustle and bustle of Market Street, although they are

only a few steps away. Offering a huge range of services, the salon’s aim is to make each and every customer look and feel amazing. Celebrate Christmas in Ashby – A Festive Weekend to Remember

Get ready to embrace the holiday spirit as Ashby de la Zouch hosts its Christmas in Ashby event on Saturday, 30th November, and Sunday, 1st December. With an exciting line-up of live performances, family-friendly activities, festive stalls, and a special appearance from Santa himself, this weekend promises a magical start to the holiday season for everyone!

Saturday, 30th November | 10AM - 5PM

The festivities kick off on Saturday with a series of performances by local schools and community groups, setting the scene for a joyful day in Ashby’s Market Street.

CK Therapy was launched by Catherine Kniveton, a qualified art psychotherapist, in 2020 and initially ran through online consultations, before she opened her first private practice in Ashby the following year. The practice on North Street opened in 2023 & there is now a team of 8 psychotherapists based there; all of whom are fully qualified and registered with their governing bodies. This vast array of knowledge

have compassionate and kind self-talk. Catherine is passionate about helping people and says it is a privilege that people feel comfortable to share their experience of something that may have been difficult to talk about for a long time with her. She aims to support her clients to reach a place where she is no longer needed and they are able to go about their daily life without the need of regular support from a therapist.

Goose was started by Helen in 2016 and has been on

Market Street here in Ashby ever since. You will no doubt

be familiar with their shop window, as they are always

guaranteed to do a great display for the town’s celebrations, whatever they may be. Helen describes the store as a ladies’ boutique offering chic, stylish designs in luxurious fabrics. They have stock arriving regularly, so no two visits are ever the same and Helen and the team enjoy getting to know their customers, many of whom have become regulars in the eight years they have been in town.

What sets Goose apart is the stylist service they also offer. So, if you are stuck in a rut, or have a special occasion or holiday coming up and need some styling advice, look no further, they can help you find the perfect look. Similarly, if you have an item of clothing you love, but don’t know how to make an outfit of it, the ladies can offer you inspiration,

whatever your budget. Helen says that without a doubt, the most

enjoyable upstairs are always good sellers, along with the blouses stocked downstairs. Brook Street is perfect for the ambience she was hoping for. It’s close enough to the centre of town, yet far enough from the hustle and bustle to be a haven of quiet once you open the door. This is just as Kerri likes it, as she wants the salon to be a relaxing, welcoming space for clients. Kerri offers a huge selection of treatments, with nails, brows, lashes & aesthetics being the most popular choices for her clients. With so many people becoming more ‘skin aware’ & taking steps to care for their skin, her facials are also popular. When asked what she likes best about her job, Kerri said that many of her clients have become friends over time and she loves getting to spend time with them,

Although the salon only opened a year ago on Brook Street in Ashby, Kerri Louise Aesthetics first started 10 years ago and in fact, Kerri has been working in and around Ashby for 5 years. Freesista Vintage, was started by owner Amber alongside studying at university back in 2016 & she opened the shop on Mill Lane Mews a little over a year ago. When asked how

she would describe the shop to someone who had never visited, the first word Amber said was ‘colourful’ & the inside of the shop is a treasure trove, bursting with colour & pattern everywhere you look! There is also a relaxed vibe & browsing is absolutely encouraged, so you can take your time to find that special item to really make your day!

Amber loves the creativity offered by owning the shop & she carefully selects every piece to keep the collection of items fresh. She does also buy items in good condition & anything over 20 years old is considered vintage (which made us in the office feel quite old...). In terms of her top selling items, the selection of graphic sweatshirts & t-shirts stocked

upstairs are always good sellers, along with the blouses stocked downstairs. It’s the people that Amber enjoys most about owning the shop & the interactions with people from so many different walks of life. Paddington Visits launches in Ashby de la Zouch as part of trail celebrating everyone’s favourite marmalade loving bear.
This week, 23 Paddington statues will be unveiled on benches stretching from John O’Groats to Land's End.
Paddington Visits launches ahead of the beloved bear’s return to the big screen in PADDINGTON IN PERU, in cinemas from November 8th 2024.

9th October 2024 – Ashby de la Zouch: Today, fans of all ages took a pew next to Paddington as STUDIOCANAL unveiled a statue of the marmalade loving bear at Ashby de la Zouch.

Launched as part of Paddington Visits, a trail of Paddington Bear statues across the UK and Ireland to celebrate the forthcoming release of PADDINGTON IN PERU, arriving in cinemas on November 8th, Paddington took a seat on a bench in Ashby Spa WI Garden’s and was immediately embraced by the local community.

With passersby stopping for selfies, Ashby de la Zouch is one of 23 locations taking part in Paddington Visits, a trail which will see the special statues appearing in cities, towns, and beauty spots all over the UK and Ireland.

Everyone in Ashby de la Zouch buzzed with excitement as they gathered to welcome Ashby Spa WI Garden’s newest neighbor: a meticulously crafted and painted statue sporting the wise bear’s signature red hat, blue duffle coat, and, naturally, a marmalade sandwich in paw. Families and children can embark on an adventure to find their local Paddington, with locations ranging from John O’Groats to Land’s End, Westport Co. Mayo to London, and, of course, a very special stop in Newbury, the hometown of Paddington's creator, Michael Bond.

With Paddington coming to towns, cities and beauty spots, STUDIOCANAL has teamed up with Ordnance Survey to help intrepid explorers discover Paddington in various locations in the UK and Ireland, head on over to Ordnance Survey’s website to learn more.

A special thank you to Ashby de la Zouch Town Council who kindly granted us permission to install the bench at the top of Market Street. Hopefully the bench will become a focal point of the town and create lasting memories for years to come. We are looking forward to seeing as many different poses and selfies as possible.”

Paddington Visits launches ahead of the bear’s latest cinematic outing, PADDINGTON IN PERU, in UK and Ireland cinemas November 8. This new adventure will see Paddington return home to the Peruvian jungle to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, now a resident at the Home for Retired Bears. With The Brown Family and Mrs Bird in tow, a thrilling adventure ensues when a mysterious disappearance plunges them into an unexpected journey from the Amazon rainforest to the mountain peaks of Peru.

floors filled with an eclectic mix of unusual items; all accompanied by a warm welcome from Jill and loyal shop

The shop stocks a huge array of items, with everything from baby clothes to handmade cards, vintage handbags as well as a lovely selection of jewellery and gift items. They also stock a selection of handmade items made right here in Ashby, such as beautiful Yogi scented homeware and gorgeous locally made pens. Their baby boxes make a great gift for anyone expecting or who has just welcomed a new arrival.

Jill says her best selling items are her homeware items, which are popular with old and young people alike; in fact

the number of younger people who visit the shop has been a pleasant surprise to Jill since she opened 10 months ago.

The people are the best part of running her business, according to Jill. She says she is supposed to be retired,

but she much prefers running her business and catching up with her lovely regulars, who come in for a coffee and

to catch up.

A friendly and welcoming presence, who will be operating in Ashby town and the business park areas.

Ashby BID have teamed up with Sams Event Control Ltd to carry out a trial over the next few months and they are dedicated to supporting the local community by offering advice, directions as well as serving as a deterrent to potential undesirable behaviors.

With direct contact with the CCTV system via the Ashby BID retail radio scheme and having a wealth of local knowledge, Sam and Si are on hand to work with businesses, residents, police and street pastors, to assist with any concerns that may arise.

So whether you need assistance or simply wish to say hello, they aim to be a positive presence and are here to ensure a safe and vibrant environment for all.

Ashby BID Rangers can help by:

Assisting residents and visitors get the most from Ashby town

Providing information on eateries, shops, events, and general local knowledge

The Ashby BID Company are thrilled to announce that they have been awarded the contract to sprinkle festive magic for the Ashby de la Zouch Christmas event 2024.

We had tremendous feedback from last year, not only from people who attended the event but also from those that put on the very best festive performances, local businesses and Market traders that attended.

Ashby BID is a non profit company, this will mean that any funds raised will stay within the Ashby economy and either be put back into the event or other local initiatives to keep Ashby a wonderful town.

The Ashby BID is funded by rate paying businesses within the BID area, our aim is to work together with local businesses, schools and residents of Ashby to promote and enhance the economic and vibrancy of our town to ensure it remains a safe & welcoming place to live, work & visit.

Half Term Town Trail

A Lunar new year story trail will be launched this February and running through the half term.

The safari-themed trail is aimed at encouraging families into town to seek out & bring to life, some very cute & colourful dragons, using their smartphone!

The safari allows you to search for a very secretive creatures called Lunar Dragons. To find it you have to travel around the town and collect ten dragons .

When you find a poster, select the matching footprints and scan the QR code to add to your collection!

Once all ten are found, a free e-book, which tells the story of their quest is revealed and you will be rewarded with a completion certificate.

The safari works by using contactless technology and QR codes, make sure to have ‘scan QR code’ set to on, open your camera, point at the QR code, tap and play.

Peter did not stop at violin sales, 2 years ago, one question on Facebook led to the formation of the Ashby String Orchestra. Why not celebrate Valentine's Day this with a delightful concert featuring the exceptional talent of Polish award-winning violinist Ada Witczyk performing playing J S Bach concertos in E and A minor.

The concert will be an evening of enchanting music, tickets on the door on the night.
